I have my car lowered on S-tech's and an ingalls rear camber kit and I used to have 18 in wheels. I never had a handling issue with my car until one day when i was driving on a twisty stretch of road that i've driven alot of times, I noticed that my car's handling dramatically got bad and its been that way ever since that day. On turns on the freeway when going 65 mph+ my car feels like its really unstable and the steering wheel feels kinda loose, almost as if I have no control of the car on the curve. The steering wheels is so loose that on the turns it jerks left and right unless you firmly grip the wheel to prevent it for swinging side to side. It also feels like my car is about to spin out of control.

So I thought it was the 18's, but I put my stock 15's with the steelies back on and I still have the same handling problem. My steering fluid is full as well. Anyone have an idea?

hmm...what are the symptoms of blown shocks. On twisty freeway roads when going along a curve, the steering wheel feels overly loose and I feel like im going to lose control of the car. I just noticed too, that even when going straight on the freeway the steering wheel is also loose, b/c i constantly have to correct the wheel even going straight. This just started 2 weeks ago, never had this problem. Had the S-techs for under 8 months.

i don't know what the symptoms are for blown shocks but maybe you should take your car in and get it checked... it sounds pretty bad...

yeah ... definitely take your car in and have them look at your suspension components. maybe you got a loose nut somewheres or your steering system is bad.

Checking for blown shocks is easy, reach thru the spring and fell the top of the strut cylinder, if it is wet (oily) it is blown and the internal oil is leaking out. Anther way to test struts is to go to each corner of the car and using both hands press down (Hard, put your weight on the car) and the car should bounce down and up once, any more than thonce and the strut is suspect.

Now based on what you are saying I an thinking of two different things.

1) front camber kit moved.(Jack up the front of the car and closesly look at botth sides, if there seems to be a huge adjustment difference between the two sides I would get the alighnment checked.
2) Inner tie rod end or stearing rack mounting bushing let go. (Jackup the front, can be done one side at a time. Grab the the tire and try to move the tire as is turning the sterring wheel. It should feel stiff, like there is a direct link with the steering rack, if there is play, get it in to have the steering looked over or reply to the thread and I can walk you thru the steps to test each componet of the steering system.

i'm with nva-av6 on this one. if your wheel is twitching or vibrating, it sounds like something is loose up front or out back. look for loose bolts and bent arms. also check to see how well your sway bars are connected, loose sway bars may affect turning. goodluck, i would recommend going to a shop and checking out what's going on under the car.

I dont think the shocks are blown. But i only notice the handling issue, when going thru curving roads on the freeway. It feels as if my car is wandering thru the turn and there isnt any control. But i have work today and I will jack up the car later when i get back to see if there is any play. Also where do you check for a loose bolt in the steering? Thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it.

If you feel play, then get under the car and have someone move the wheel, try to see where the play is at, there are two main joints in the steering, the Inner Tie Rod and the Outer Tie Rod.

If the outer is bad the play will be right at the knuckle just behind the wheel. To check this grab ahold of the steering rod and move the wheel, if it is bad you will feel the play without the rod moving.(Not too hard to replace, if bad and you have basic tools I can walk you through it.)

The inner is a bit trickier, but the same principle, move the tire and watch the bellows boot on the end of the steering rack, if it moves then more than likely the inner tie rod is bad (And they can be a ***** to replace even with the right tools.), but if this is the case there are a couple of other things to check that are less likely, but can happen. Grab the steering rod again and try to move it up and down, side to side. if there is play there and the steering rack itself is not moving than there is a good chance that the bushings in the rack are bad (On our cars this will requier dropping the K-Frame to get at the rack to replace, BHB job.) Next lets check the steering linkage. On our cars the steering is acutually damn tight, so open the drivers window, put in the key turn it to un-lock the whell, but do not start the car, try to turn the steering wheel, there should be no more than 5-10 degrees of steering whell movement before the wheels try to move.

If none of these show any issues then we will go into suspension componets.

hi I started having the same problem last week just replaced the front camber and today I took it to get the alignment but they told me that I need to replace the inner and outer tie rods my question is do any one have a good and reliable brand or a link where I can get them for a decent price thank for any help in advance

ok thanks im search Ebay I need to get the tie rod before get the alignment. I know for sure I have a bad alignment but last week it got worst with shaking really bad when I hit the 50-55 mph

Alignment, could just be unbalanced tires, loose rods or rack, bad rods, uneven tire wear.

Shaking and vibrations at certain speeds could also be from worn axles.

If you a v6 TL-s axel are a nice option.
