All 04 VUEs have the Honda 3.5l/250hp and 5 spd trans. The Red Line is the hot one with lowered suspension ,18in. wheels and body kit.
GM VUE concept, complete with a Comptech supercharger.

I never thought these words would ever be said together, GM, Honda and Comptech.
The power train guys must have had a coronary and crapped out a socket wrench when given orders by the chief engineer.
Yeah, take this Honda VTEC V6, bolt on a Comptech SC and stuff it into that VUE.

WEll Honda needed Diesel Engines for Europe, so GM was all sure... whatll u give us? and honda was all... well u can use the 3.5L

GM was all... hmm well the 3.6L isnt ready yet, this would make a great engine for the VUE in the meantime!

So, yeah... thats it until the honda deal is up

the only reason i asked is because the early vues got a different 3.0 which isnt exactly fantastic. id love to see the 3.6 in the vue..

here's a question: why did gm put the 3.4 ohv in the cheyenne when the same platform gets a far superior honda motor in the saturn version?? did they think chevy owners would be offended and saturn owners wouldnt care? further, did they think we wouldnt notice that for the same price or possibly better they could get a better powertrain in the same platform just by getting a saturn instead of a chevy? and why did the cheyenne take so long?

ahh well. its dumb. but id like to know their reasoning.

That makes sense :) .

So all of the diesel engines Honda has in Europe are GM engines  .

Eh... sorta... some ofthem are, but honda created perhaps the best diesel engine over there and i believe is starting to use that.

and the EQUINOX (cheyenne :bonk: ) gets the 3.4L cause its cheap as heck to build and gets decent gas mileage... i dont know why they didnt just use the ultra efficient 3.5L... but the 3.4L is just fine too, it has plenty of torque where u need it. just dont go out racing in it :D

EQUINOX SS (rummored) oughta be pretty sweet tho ;)

yeh realized that a little after i posted and then never came back and fixed it.. lol.. i was thinking of that goofy chevy concept truck.

why used the 3.4 when the new 3.5 is used in the malibu? personally, i think if the equinox cant keep up with a 3.0 escape, which has been out for YEARS, then its an underachiever, especially considering its late arrival.

Yep i was wondering why the 'Nox was using the china built 3.4L myself, but then i found out...

the 3.5L engine is currently at max production, a plant is being rennovated here in the good ole US of A to build the 3.5L and the 3.9L at much higher quantities. however until that is finished towards the end of this year, 3.5Ls will continue to come from mexico and the 'Nox will have to make due with the 3.4L

simple as that

GM got honda 3.5's because honda wanted stuff like onstar navagation, plain and simple. Thats the answer you'll find in all GM press releases. Why do they have/use the 3.4 and 3.5l? Good question. Both are based on the original 2.8L 60* v6 from the 80's. But the 3.4 is a DOHC design made for camaros/firebirds/grand am GT's. The 3.5L is a new version and still a 2v head design. Why they don't just make a 3.5L DOHC motor I don't know. In fact, I don't understand why they don't just use the new sweet 3.5L I5 DOHC vvt that makes 225hp and mucho torque.

Uhh B&S.. the 3.4L is available in OHV and DOHC form (err was....) they were just different heads.

there was a 3.5L DOHC engine, the ShortStar, aint it sucked.

Just wait, Multivalve pushrods are right around the corner along with VVT and all that stuff

Yes I know the blocks are the same, thats why I said 60* v6 family from the old 2.8 [then 3.1, then 3.4, now 3.5] I forgot the f-body 3.4 was a 2v head though :bonk:

Thats a completely different engine family. That was a northstar v8 - 2 cylinders, and never lived up to its rated power. Im talking about the 60* v6 family.

well, saying the 3.4 ohc and dohc share blocks is an oversimplification, but i think we all got it.

the current 3.4 is only ohv.

so you're saying that gm is giving northstar technology or rights or something to honda in return for some v6s? this is news to me.

^ I work for Saturn and this is what they told me, either way, that engine is kick-ass in the Vue, and it beats the snot out of the Equinox and any other small SUV out there (and it's Onstar by the way). Why GM would put a less powerful engine in a bigger version of the Vue, I don't know, but hey it gives me the advantage so I don't mind!
