I just got my new road and track and the new GTO is featured in there. the engine is a 5.7 liter V-8. 350 horse 365 torque. RWD 0-60 5.3 sec. and the quarter in 13.8 sec. at 108.00 mph. I was thinking about new cars to get and when I saw this one it jumped to the top of the list. With a few mods couldn't you get 400hp? the price is around 32-34K. Would this car be something to look foward to?

Yes, but it is typical GM trash....I have had 2 cars from GM and they failed in every way.. crap crap crap. Only my 2 cents, not meant o upset anyone. Not trying to start a fight.

1977 Cutlass with a 6.6 liter and a 1993 Camaro with a 3.4 liter, both had issues and the Camaro was in the shop about once a month for something.

Saw this car in my Car and Driver magazine, did not like the styling.

No one bash me.....please.

Gm's and honda's only for me please. I've had 4 GM's, a 78 and 79 c10 [still have those] a 84 buick lesabre and 87 caddilac brougham. All are exellent vehicles. The new GTO, if you read the article, is being praised as the most well put together vehicle from GM in more then 20 yrs. The drivetrain is proven byond a shadow of a doubt [LS1 v8, T56 6sp or 4L60E auto, and 10 bolt rear end] unlike poor toohypers 60* v6 camaro
Its a very sweet car, too bad they overpriced it IMO!
Now if they would only make a no leather, power nothing, radio delete, manual tranny only version for $20,000, now THAT would be a sweet deal that even I would find a way to jump in on.

I think its a great car. Not to mention the enormous aftermarket already out there for it. The one thing people seem to ***** about is the styling, but hey, that's what you get from a mild conversion. I think it'll do very well and in a few years GM will have a home-grown GTO running around the streets.

GM and the rest of the US might not be able to make a car for ****...it may rattle your teeth out, have ****** materials inside that rattle over every bump...but nothin beats the raw horsepower of a SBC rocketing down a STRAIGHT road with the rear wheels screaming. well, nothing except maybe a BBC doin the same thing. after the impala SS left us (the REAL impala ss folks), i thought GM had lost it.

I would rather save an extra couple grand and buy an 03+ Cobra instead of the GTO. Either that or wait for the new Mustang GT (say what you want but I love the styling). New Camaro MIGHT be coming out soon, I heard a rumor that it was going to be AWD too...

Not gonna argue, but I think its possible you are misinformed about the GTO.

The Holden Monaco (spelling?) was an Austalian brand GM car which is pritty much the GTO they are bringing to the US. It has years of history in Australia especially with aftermarket and drag racing.

The GTO GM is bringing into the states is still built in Australia.

That doesnt mean it does/doesnt have superior quality to existing GM cars, but instead of labelling it as general GM trash I like to keep an open mind to see what the aussies are making us first.

But this GTO to me seems geared towards more of the M3 type buyer except less money. It is fast, looks not as sporty as possible, but somewhat professional...It doesnt handle so hot and all these things make me beleive this car is geared towards younger professional type guys who like to look nice, not in a kids car, but also have fun with it.

Since it is american aftermarket parts are generally cheap and plentiful. bastards! :p

I was as shocked as you are. Never said it was gonna happen, just a rumor. What's even funnier is that I heard the rumor from the owner of a Camaro SS...

does the g35 have a back seat? ;)

i like this gto. I bet it will be TT'ed lingenfelter style in no time like the vette.

This is basically a 2+2 vette. Same engine, same trans so why not?

Saw it at the auto show.

IMO I think this car would bring back the muscle car sedan many want. The Mercury Marauder failed to do that.

just okay

IMO, it's just okay. Not really much to it other than a nice comeback for a RWD V8. My first thoughts are what makes it worth the money? I mean, it's not decked out with features, it certainly isn't a new re-tooled ride to warrant a higher cost to produce, etc.....

It's hard for me as today, most cars are way overpriced. I mean, $30k+ is pushing it for four wheels. I can easily afford it, but perhaps with my age, priorities shifted.

Again, nice performance and comeback, okay styling, but I'd rather get a TL or G35 for just a bit more. Performance is just one aspect I'd look for in a Mid $30k car. Especialy since I don't see how any ford or GM could be worth it.

Sorry.

im suprised no one else mentioned this.
good looking out dawg.

you are so right, this car is is competition to the German V8s in Ausi.
hell you all drove it at some point in NFS hp2, competing with the M5 and the Vette, Its the same damn car, its been out for years now, very good aftermarket support for it too. you guys should see some of the boddy kits for that baby.

Its a age old GM trick, bring a car from the east that is not marketed here and put our badge on it, they did it with that Cadilac Catera a while back and that Pontica Ferio or whatever its name was too.
its an old trick that works everytime.

it also saves a lot of money too, when done with the right car likre this GTO/Holden, if its a success just imagine profits. considering it wasnt designed from the ground up.
i give GM a  for this one, im actually impressed. why? because the holde is a great car. thats why.
