Both the Neuspeed and Comptech short shifter require the same amount of effort. In any case, the speed at which you can shift a synchromesh tranny is largely governed by the tranny in any case, regardless of how fast you try to move the lever.
What would be ideal(but out of our reach) is a short throw with a long stick.

What they do is extend the shifter below the pivot point. The result is the same height of the knob, with a shorter throw- which sounds like its exactly what your looking for.
