the muffler pretty much produces the sound.. so you need to find out what kind of exhaust tone you want.. i dont think the muffler produces any gains..

 

what is the best MUFFLER to make my car performe well, but not sound too ricey!?? i have 2.5in piping for the exhaust, along with headers and an intake. which muffler would be best?
99 accord coupe 4banger (automatic v-tec)

depends..
going aftermarket hiflow exhaust.. would reduce your torque.. increase hp.
going OEM exhaust.. would not reduce torque.. but does not increase hp.

then again I never know what I'm talking about..

A custom 2.25 inch piping kit will compliment any muffler for our i4s.. but then again you have 2.5 waiting so.. I wouldn't know. I have an apexi n1, and it sounds nice without resonator.

apex'i systems are usually very conservatively tuned. Not loud @ all unless you get the N1 style. I think their WS systems are really good if you don't want a crazy ass sound but want a little bit of a growl.

 

i have the WS on my i4... sounds good... very low rumble at idle and it gets as loud as it gets at around 3500rpm which sounds nice and deep... after 4k all i hear is my SR.. but it does hang a bit low

 

i just dont want to sound like the 1.8L civics and integras. we all have 2.3 or 2.4L engines...so we shouldnt sound too ricey!

Flowmaster sounds good. I'm a fan of Magnaflow. I just liked the tone better. Personal opinion. Oh, and lifetime replacement.

Magnaflow sounds alright it did on my V6 but they sound all the same. I would say that the magnaflow on your car will sound like the stock muffler on the new Civic Si's, they sound magnaflowish. My bro has a Flowmaster 60 on his 94 Mirage and its sounds pretty good and doesn't get louder as you floor it.

Magnaflow has better build quality for sure, theres no doubt about it but each of them have their advantages. For one the Flowmasters don't stand out since they are black.

Let us know what you end up doing and post some video clips with some great audio behind the mufflers whenyour revving and when your driving by

 

i think ill give the magnaflow a shot, right now i have a Ravin Muffler on, with a 3in outlet. i'll have to post some sound clips...then compare.

I heard a few years back, maybe 5 years, that the import guys were sticking Flowmaster 70 series on their cars. Does anyone know if anyone has done this?

yeah. the only i dislike about the ws hangs low. i'm sure a muffler shop can fix that though.

Thanks. It's not hard. Just get the high heat type of spray paint. It sticks well. I took a sponge and cleaned mine along with all the exhaust pipe and painted all of it. Careful though. I have an Eibach Anti-Roll bar and I got some overspray on it. It came off with a small wipe cloth with paint thinner but it also too off my white Eibach stamp that was on it. I'm just picky about things.

back to topic. i want a new exhuast, either tanabe or magnaflows.

 

i have a 2.25 inch cat back magnaflow XL muffler and a sports resonator... no rasp at all, and it has a very deep thrum from 1000-2250 from 2250-4000 it makes a howl... and after 4k to redline you cant hear it over the SRI

Well noted and I was wrong. I believed it was 650. The new signature is correct this time.
With being a moderator he (Kiet) does not need to threaten or be bossy in his position. He could have simply informed me of my error and the changes that I needed to make with out harsh words. And inform me in a P.M. Not publicly. I was perturbed by his actions and I let him know it. I didn't choose the best method and was equally harsh and I apologize to Kiet for the threat but not for coming against him. For I felt he was wrong in his ways just as I was in mine.

So what about the exhaust? Is it on and done? Pics?
