J32 Type S Swap Progress Thread

Hey Every body! Well I said i was gonna Start a new thread for the Motor swap so all ?'s please place here! So im gonna start off by saying What has been accomplished so far. Well i got the blown j30 half way taken apart so i can sell parts to people. So if you need anything let me know. I have a j32a2 with 69k miles and picked it up for 500$ so i got a good deal there. It came from a 01 Acura CL type S w/ n auto tranny.:rolleye2: wish it was a manual! but anyway It is being put together at at a friends dad's muscle car shop and since he has a job we can only work on the week ends!:rolleye2: but it will come together slowly. It is planned to be done by June. The guy that owns the shop (personal shop) has promised me 400 whp and is shooting for 500whp and since it is his first time tooling around with imports, it will ALL BE FOR FREE!!!! He has worked with 280 z's but he had been putting small block 350's in them. So wish me luck. :eek::D. Right now im focused on getting a ecu so i ask this ?
Will any 01-03 TL-Cl ecu work for a type S and or 6 speed or does it have to be specific ? so some of the otherprogress is that im getting new cams custom made. Im not sure if we are working w/t the type S cams or a whole new set. I just took out the butter fly valve and gasket bar for breathing power cause im keeping the turbo kit. All of the piping will be tucked and i will be running a 3 inch turbo back and custom IC piping that will be fully welded. I have another suprise in the exhaust to i will unveil later. I will be running a Magnaflow 3 chamber muffler resonator but if the is any other ideas to keep my car quieter i would love to here it I HATE LOUD CARS!!!.Im trying to polish parts as we speak on the motor even though the motor is supa clean already! I aready have the PSP off ready to transfer the alt and AC. and starter. (I took it off to clean it). But thats my set up right now so if any comments or suggestions are out there let me know!!!

I just took out the butter fly valve and gasket bar for breathing power cause im keeping the turbo kit.
I believe i said im keeping he turbo kit on the car... any way i wish we wouldnt hate. Thats why its free. Im trying to pioneer here now i need the support! Veit what i meant by the post is im putting it in at the shop . I mean I am installing it but hes helping me with the machine work!!! and shop providing the tools and space. And it will be built and worked on until it works. Hes not a Stereo typical mechanic no matter what happens to the motor we are not stopping until we reach 400 whp. but i mean whatever im not gonna whine. I have never lied about nothing so i guess i have to prove myself again. THanks for the advice though.

What does he think he can do to this 3.2 that'll make it throw down 400whp N/A? Free is GREAT except he's probably doing it for free so that if he jacks up your motor, he can say "at least I didn't charge you". Get the motor back from him. Do it yourself. I figured you would've learned from the last time you let a shop work on your car.

you're not really a Pioneer.... NVA-AV6 has already started on this project... but he's getting side tracked with all the J36s he's building everyone....

But with the proper build, 400HP shouldn't be too hard to achieve. The question is, do you even know what you're going to put in it to make it stable, and efficient? Do you have any sort of plan, drawings, or strategy? or are you just going to give it to a guy who doesn't work on imports play with your engine??

What kind of Engine Management system?

Where is your harness?

Where is your 6spd tranny?

Do you have ANY plans besides what you're going to put in the muffler?

What's the internal of the J32 going to be?

These are just some of the "BASIC" questions you should be considering.

Where is your 6spd tranny? .not ready for 6 speed tranny waiting for it to die!


Do you have ANY plans besides what you're going to put in the muffler? Yes actually lots of plans im just getting on my feet!

What's the internal of the J32 going to be? We are gonna make a custom cam set and sleeve the block with 440 injectors cant figue out if im gonna put a j37 crack yet? i was thinking is the j32's forged already?
can any one answer my ecu question?

hey clay good luck with the project... build the j32 b4 u dump it in and just get a 6spd and put it in while ur already have everything out.. ur wasting time if ur waiting for the stock tranny to go... on ur 1st run it will die if ur looking at 400-500 whp. ur looking at around 12+ psi of boost.. keep us posted w/ pics

pioneer, not so much, I have had a j32a2 6sp for 2 years, boosted for a year. I am at 8 lbs of boost and am bairly at 300hp and 315 torque. for 400hp you need a really nice turbo, real engine management, new injectors, and a real tune!!! I am redoing my system in a few months and we will see what it produces with a gt35r!!

^^ I'd like to know what this mechanic plans to do to make a 400-500whp N/A J32A2...with AT. From Clay's "plan"...it doesn't seem like they're going to bore this thing out at all, so it'll stay a 3.2L.

okay not hate here but clay, you need dart sleeves, forged rods, forged pistons, good ringsm trash the neo and run aem ems, 6 speed with a good clutch not stock. 500whp will call for 440+ injectors and a very good tune. the best cam you can run is the stock j32a2 since noone has had any luck with custom cams and the fact that your mechanic has no exp in import i would highly recommend that you find somone else to build the engine. the j is not a 350 chevy by far and if the sleeves or any interal is out of wack even a lil bit it will fail. i would say go to a good machine shop with the proper tools and exp for the build, import tuner for the tuning and the rest you may can handle or your mechanic can. you will need a upgraded valve train as well. if money is tight, then wait until you can afford to build it properly. honda engines are good engines, but if they are not built correctly they will be a time bomb. as for the turbo, i would run a dual bb gt35r from precision or turbonetics. use only mandrel bent piping and a good intercooler. i fear your going to make a costly mistake with this mechanic and lack of exp. i dont want to see you waste time a money to end up back at square 1. good luck with your project

Thanks cap....Lets not use mechanic as THe "GUYS" name lets just say my friend. Caus see we are working with th local machine shops around here that does Hondas he is just paying the way for me!!!

Is the j30 throttle body spacer to small for a j32 if it is its for sale!

Yes, its specific for the 6 speed and auto.

Too small is all relative but yes it is smaller. You should go with a bigger TB if you are going to do it right.

I'm not trying to sound like a **** or anything...this is a genuine question. NVA-AV6 is in NV, and Clay is in GA. So how would this happen, Clay gets his car towed there or he would just drive there and just stay there for the entire process?
