Seat belt/Air Bag sensor acting up. How to fix?

I am getting an airbag indicator light on my dash board. The thing is, I think it's related to the seat belt sensor. Somehow it comes on while I start my car. Other times it disappears.

I don't know if this is true, but driving w/o the seat belt, the seat belt indicator doesn't come on, instead the air bag indicator comes on.

Thanks.

If it is the seat belt sensor you can try putting your seat belt on before starting your car. Clearly a better idea than driving without putting your seat belt on. I know it's not really a fix, but it could hold you over until you can get it fixed.

If it's the seat belt buckle sensor it should be covered under warranty. It's covered for the life of the car. I just had this happen on my wife's 03. Buckling up 1st worked for her and the dealer fixed it for free. You are however responsible for the diagnostic fee if it turns out to be something else.

I also recall reading that someone fixed the buckle themselves without too much difficulty as I understood it.

I will try call them and see what they say. Do I just say it's a seat belt issue or air bag problem? I just don't wanna get shafted w/ the bill of any sort.

I rather not fix it. What did you tell the dealer?

If you put the seatbelt on before you start the car, the light won't come on. If you do a search, I believe there is a thread telling how to fix the buckle to keep the light from coming on. Something about bending a couple tabs to improve contact with a sensor I think.

Just take it and tell them you are getting a SRS warning. I was just getting a spare key programed when the tech noticed my light. Without asking, he went ahead and order two buckles and told me he will see me tomorrow in order to get those replaced. Good service.
