Hello everybody,

I'm trying to purchase spark plugs for my 3.0L V6 but I don't know if i'm buying the correct plugs. I want to get the best spark plugs there are for my car and have done some researching from driveaccord.net and v6performance.net. I'm getting mixed answers like going OEM, Denso, NGK, or Bosch iridiums.

I'm leaning towards NGK iridiums because if I recall correctly OEM plugs are NGKs, but I don't know if I should buy the OEM plugs or NGK plugs from amazon.com.

I am currently looking at these NGK plugs that fit my 3.0L V6 accord to amazon.com:

NGK (6994) IZFR6K-11 Iridium Spark Plug - $13.12 a piece.

Are those the right ones to get, or should I just go to Honda and purchase OEM plugs?

shiat I have no idea what to do or what to buy.... HELP! :banghead:

I bought an '02 Maxima with 154k miles on it, got a flashing SES light and a major miss at about 158k miles. Of course the code had to be an P0303, cylinder 3 misfire, the rear bank which meant the intake had to come off. Had a set of coil packs on hand, figured that was the problem until I pulled the plugs. Obviously the original plugs that should have been changed at 105k miles. Wondered how it was still running good prior to the misfire event, plugs were opened up to about a .080 gap!

I've got 75k miles on the Accord I just bought but it is 7 years old so I'll probably change them out sooner rather than later. I think 7 years is long enough for the plugs to be screwed into the heads. At least I won't have to pull an intake manifold this time. :)

^he's right but at 50k miles they make the car drive like it took a fresh breath of air for the first time.

if you have the money and time, do it long before the recommended time. of course this recommendation is based on a car driven in SoCal DD with mixed driving styles.

NGK laser Iridium plugs.......................

.......#6994 seem the best bet.................

I know the book calls for replacement at the 105,000 miles major (Timing belt et al) service...............

.....and I know several Honda-smart mechanics have indicated that plugs are good until about 120,000................

Appreciate any feedback from anyone who has pushed beyond 120,000 miles.

These plugs seem to last forever (no MPG or performance drop, no codes thrown at circa 109,500 miles).

thanks..........ez....

Not a Honda but I had a 2002 Maxima (VQ35) that developed a really bad miss in #3 (enough to make the SES light flash), at 159,000 miles, it was still running on the original plugs. Until the misfire, I would never had known. It was a 6 speed car and pulled noticeably harder than my first '02 Maxima which had the 4 speed automatic. Mileage was decent too. My guess is that newer cars have such overall excellent ignition systems that they can still run well on badly worn plugs. Stock gap is .045 on the VQ35, these were around .075-.080.

Kind of a pain to change the plugs on that car, intake had to come off to get to the back plugs. That meant a $42 intake gasket and about an hour of time (including taking pictures) to remove and replace.
