Ok ive searched for awhile and havent seen anything on this. Could i take a stock J30A1 block and put a 02-04 Odyssey crank and rods in it? With whatever pistons i decided to use. And do a 3.5 conversion that way? Or will it not work?

J32 in Accord

O.k. guys, I'm new to this site, but far from new with Honda's. I've never done any performance work on the V6's, but I recently bought a 01 Accord v6 auto, wrecked with a busted engine. I decided to fix the car and keep it for myself. I put an 02 CL Type S in it with 1,000 miles with a remanufactured Honda auto transmission staright from the crate. Finished it Saturday, runs great, but there's got to be more power there because I'm running the stock Accord ecu. I want this car as a dependable daily driver, so has anyone done this swap and if so, what ecu did you use??

Thanks,
Chuck

05 RL engine drop in to Ridgeline? j35a9?

I broke a rod and want to grab a running 05 rl 300hp and drop it in, wondering if tranny will bolt up. This Ridge looks like the honda baja ridge. it gets drivin well!! Cost is an issue, ive just got to get this thing rolling again, have warranty but afraid when they see mods will void it.

Yes you haven't dream of tapping into the power of that motor yet bud come into a thread call A unfortunate engine rebuild (TNT-DP4). I just finsh my car and there's alot of guys there with good knol, even here too. Talk to NVA-AV6 in there. Bless

hey this is off topic but have anyone swap J30A1 to H22A4 cuzz instead of wasting more gas on J30 and the tranny suck and even not alota mods could be done. why not swap H22A4

What is the problem with swapping in a j35a8 engine?

I've been a regular member on the Acurazine forums for the 2nd gens for almost 5 years now, but oddly either the site seems down temporarily or my computer is denying me access, surprise.

I've been looking to throw a J35A3 into my 2000 Acura TL for a few years now, doing mostly research into doing the 6-speed conversion as well. Over the past few weeks though, I've decided to just do a 3.5 swap and leave it auto for the time being.

Although the TL and AV6 are different, I thought maybe somebody might know the answer to my question:
Assuming you could swap a J32A1 out of my car into an AV6 without any modifications, could i theoretically swap a J35A3 from a 2002 MDX into MY car without any modifications as well(and visa-versa...long story)? I know the ECU will handle it just fine, but im wondering if its a 100% "plug-and-play" deal, like all the vacuum lines and sensors and such. Remove both engines and switch them, should only take a couple hours.

Any insight into this is appreciated, and sorry its not an Accord question also :)

^ Here are the 3.5L swap options for you as I stated in my thread.
J35A3 MDX is similar to J35A4 Odyssey in terms of fitment and also 2nd generation J-series engine. Thus, I don't see any issue to fit TL-P.

J35A3/J35A3 (Acura MDX '01-02), J35A4/J35A4 (Honda Odyssey '02-04)
advantage: no modifications needed, great torque, nice mid-range
disadvantage: little less air flow than J32A2 but very close.

This option looks like a good choice if getting the complete engine or even separate short block and cyl. heads/manifold due to a price. And MDX/Odyssey the cyl. heads are the same part # as CL-S, however intake valves, upper manifold center chamber and cams are different than CL-S but overall much better than pathetic AV6.

J35A1/J32A2 (Odyssey '01/CL-S '01-03)
advantage: great entire powerband and especially torque.
disadvantage: Need CL-S or RL pistons.

Note: Same options apply as listed below.

J35A3/J32A2 ('01-02 MDX/CL-S '01-03) or J35A4/J32A2 (Odyssey '02-04/CL-S '01-03)
advantage: great entire powerband and especially torque.
disadvantage: Need CL-S or RL pistons.

There are also couple options:

Option 1
With '01-02 complete MDX block or '02-04 Odyssey complete block (crank/rods/pistons) it is required to purchase 2005 Acura RL pistons (new set $50 each) This is a best option still since these pistons have clearance for large 36mm J32A2 (intake) valves thus no modification needed. Despite the fact they have higher 11.0:1 CR still even supercharger can be used here with low boost up to 7psi intercooled (assuming safe AFR). In addition, if 11:1 CR is too high for you, you can use '03 CL-S pistons with 10.5:1 CR.

Option 2
'01-03 J32A2 block (CL-S)
Required to purchase the following:

-= hondaautomotiveparts.com =-
'02-'04 Odyssey (crankshaft)
Product No. 368270 or
Honda part #13310-PGK-A00

'02-'04 Odyssey (connecting rod)
Product No. 368269 or
Honda part #13210-PGK-A00

Main bearings + rod bearings

-= acuraautomotiveparts.org =-
'03 CL-S (pistons) - 10.5:1 CR or
'05 RL (pistons) - 11.0:1 CR

pistons rings (per chosen model)

Note: Odyssey pistons do not have clearance to fit large 36mm J32A2 (intake) valves. Solution - custom job to increase valve pockets.

The correct valve dimensions- intake/exhaust

J32A2 '01-03 TL-S/CL-S: 36mm/30mm
J35A1 '99-01 Odyssey: 34mm/29mm
J35A4 '02-04 Odyssey: 35mm/30mm
